Marked each year on 2 October — the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi — the UN International Day of Non-Violence is a global call to uphold a culture of peace, tolerance, and understanding. This ceremony brings that call home to the Ashanti Region, anchoring it in local leadership, community dialogue, and shared commitment to non-violent progress.

About the Event

The Ashanti Regional Remembrance is the second in a series of four flagship regional events UNPAF Africa is hosting across Ghana in 2026. Convened on the UN International Day of Non-Violence — observed globally on 2 October — the event gathers diverse stakeholders from the Ashanti Region around a shared agenda: deepening the culture of non-violence, strengthening dialogue-based leadership, and reinforcing the role of communities in sustaining peace.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Conference Hall provides a fitting setting, placing the event at the heart of one of Ghana's most dynamic and culturally significant cities. Kumasi's tradition of governance through dialogue — rooted in the Asante kingdom's historic councils — resonates directly with the event's emphasis on leadership and non-violent conflict resolution.

Participants will include traditional authorities, law enforcement representatives, religious leaders, elected officials, youth advocates, and civil society organizations. The event will feature presentations, open dialogue, and a collective reaffirmation of non-violence as a governing principle for development across Ghana and the continent.
